On February 24th, 2016, founder Makenna Lenover gave a closing keynote at the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Exhibit and Conference to academic personnel from all over the state of Pennsylvania. The speech was titled “What do you want to DO? Evoking passion in learning and inspiring students” and the description is as follows.

The center of the presentation is evoking passion in learning using innovation to find the best ways to learn. As a recent high school graduate, Makenna will offer alternatives to a focus on career options by focusing on accomplishing tasks. She will share information about her nonprofit and learning journey and how teachers can inspire students to find their passion and use it to learn, all while making a difference. She will discuss how community service and passion can work together to inspire learning.

The keynote was a big success, and the message truly got across to people attending. Additionally, it was a great experience to gain awareness in for the cause and network for future projects. Most importantly, between speaking and the generosity of conference attendees, Little Known Help Zone raised over $2400 for causes in Central America. After the fundraising season at Bryn Mawr College during the Spring Semester, a comprehensive plan about the funds and where they are going will be released. The response was amazing and beyond what was expected, and LKHZ is incredibly thankful for everyones help.

Thank you for all your support thus far and allowing Little Known Help Zone to grow to new levels.

Community Day of Learning Presentation

On February 23rd, Bryn Mawr College will be hosting the second annual Community Day of Learning. The title for this year’s theme is “In/ Visible: Class on Campus and in Our Lives.” Last year, over 800 students, faculty, and staff participated in some or all of the day’s program; the latter included 40 sessions offered primarily by combinations of students, faculty and staff and in formats ranging from workshops to films to panel discussions to lectures.

Little Known Help Zone will be hosting a session titled, Class, Culture, and Poverty: Bias Towards the Indigenous in Central America. The description for the session is as follows:
Before colonialism, aboriginals in Central America ruled the land. After Old World contact, a hierarchical class structure based in racism and ethnocentric superiority led to detrimental poverty in Central America, strongest in Indigenous Populations. Learn more, as well as how you can help.

This presentation will be a wonderful way to spread the word about the issues of Latin America and the causes Little Known Help Zone supports, as well as ways to get involved and help.

PETE&C Presentation

On Wednesday, February 24th, Founder Makenna Lenover will be speaking at PETE&C, the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference located at Hershey Lodge. The speech will be highlighting approaches to education to inspire students to give back on their own, implementing technology platforms for personal growth, and how this learning approach can create tangible results. All of this will be exemplified by sharing the growth and endeavors of Little Known Help Zone.

This speech will raise awareness about LKHZ and its causes to a largescale group of people, and will result in a donation that will be incredibly helpful to the causes. 12417855_10205446011890785_1733858868723505983_n
