Donation to Black Girls Code

As LKHZ is educating itself and learning during this tumultuous time, we wanted to spread some love to an organization that promotes our message, but also diversity and inclusion.

We recently made a donation to Black Girls Code, an incredible nonprofit  devoted to teaching computer science skills to black girls ages 7-17, aiming to reduce the major disparities in the STEM and coding fields.

Racism is institutionalized, and seeps into our education system to perpetuate inequalities. LKHZ sees this globally, and America is not exempt from this. If anything, we are a prime example of racism and educational inequality. Organizations like Black Girls Code is a prime way to fight this (in addition to combatting racism and changing policies). Their free workshops incite passion and make small yet meaningful steps to empower WOC to enter the STEM world (which we need!).

Consider donating as well, no amount is too small!

Local Community Donations

Little Known Help Zone is happy to share we made two community donations during this stressful time of Covid.

Feeding the community is of utmost importance, so we donated to Second Harvest Food Bank in the Lehigh Valley and Philabundance in Philadelphia, enough to feed families for a week in both cities.

Allentown and Philadelphia are facing food insecurity during these trying times, and it is so important no one goes hungry and everyone stays healthy.

Would you like to donate to these causes? Click the links and share what you can. Or, donate to one of your local food banks!

Planning to Give Back

Little Known Help Zone has a helpful donation project in the works, and we want to hear from you!

As we come up with a list of organizations that need help during this stressful time, we’d love to hear what organizations in your local area needs some help, and we want to look into them and donate as well! We’re talking food banks, organizations for children, shelters, and any other places that are feeling extra stress right now and need a bit of an extra hand.

In this time, more than ever, we should be be spreading love and help all we can.

Need Help?

Little Known Help Zone wants to help you during this stressful time of the Covid-19 Pandemic. We know people are struggling, in so many ways, and we feel it is essential we give back to the community and people who need it most.

Are you an organization we’ve worked with in the past that needs another helping hand? Reach out!

Even a company that has been generous and donated to our causes previously? We want to do what we can to support you.

If you have a great idea to give back right now with the Brighter Future Grant, we also want to fund these initiatives.

Whether you’re an organization, individual, or company, LKHZ wants to #colorourfuture to make it through these tough times.

Monthly Classroom Project

Monthly Classroom Project: South Philadelphia High School

This week, Little Known Help Zone was thrilled to visit another school for the monthly classroom project in Philadelphia, the South Philadelphia High School.

Located on Broad Street, this school is beautiful and noticeable with the gorgeous murals outside. They are diverse, bright, and inviting. Once inside, there are still more murals and art pieces decorating the halls.

I donated art supplies to the art teacher, as well as a ton of classroom and plant supplies to the ecology teacher.

I also got to see some of the school and learn about their student body. What used to be one of the largest high schools in Philadelphia now has 600 students, 50% as ESL students and Special Ed students.

Thank you to Janelle for arranging this!

Monthly Classroom Project: Esperanza Charter Academy

On Monday, Little Known Help Zone paid a visit to the Esperanza Charter Academy, donating to the 2nd grade classrooms. The kids were out on a field trip that day, but it was great to see the North Philadelphia facility and meet some of the administrative staff and leaders.

This growing charter school is devoted to its students success, and we were happy to donate to three different classrooms!

Christmas Bed Donation

Just in time for Christmas, LKHZ utilized the money from December successes to donate a bed to sponsored student Julio’s family. Right now, the family of 5 shares 2 beds, so this extra bed will be a huge relief for the family. For $170, Julio will receive a bed and a mattress, made by the organization Mayan Families’ workshop (that also commissions other young Mayan students in the trade craft of furniture making, supplying them with a skill and income).

If you would like to give back this holiday season, consider donating a set of sheets for $25 to Julio’s family as well. Comment below or email to learn how to donate.

Happy Holidays!
