An exciting meeting occurred with Little Known Help Zone yesterday, where we presented about the organization to the Bryn Mawr Rotary club. In addition to discussing our classroom project, we planned to deliver Rotary Dictionaries to all of the 3rd grade classrooms visited! This exciting partnership perpetuates both the Rotary and LKHZ’s mission.

Spring Semester 2017 Accomplishments
The Little Known Help Zone Spring 2017 semester was a busy and successful one here at Bryn Mawr College. We had some great events, and here is a round up of the accomplishments of the club this semester.
-Hosted a Guatemalan Tea Study Hour around midterms to provide a relaxing environment and introduce students to the tea of the Chirepeco cooperative, one organization we are supporting.
-Had the Deputy Consul of the Consulate of Philadelphia-Mexico, come for a speaking event with the Bryn Mawr Community
-Sell candygrams for May Day, selling fair trade ethical organic chocolate and raising over $50 for labor rights in Central America.
Spring Fundraiser- May Day Candygrams
Want to support Little Known Help Zone’s efforts in promoting fair labor in Central America? Consider buying a fair trade chocolate candygram for a friend or yourself and supporting a good cause!
For May Day, we are selling fair trade milk chocolate bars for $3, delivered in your mailbox or in a friend’s on 4/28, just in time for May Day! All money goes to ORMUSA and Chirrepeco Tea Cooperative, funding labor rights training and paid maternity leave.
Immigrant Rights Speaker-3/28
On Tuesday, 3/28, Rocio Vasquez from the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia came to Bryn Mawr College to talk about her work at the consulate, what she does during the day, and how they are working to protect immigrants in the area. The consulate does amazing work with labor rights, family law, criminal law, and health services.
The event was a casual, conversational environment with a q/a session, and there was a large turnout including faculty and staff. The event will also be covered by the Bryn Mawr website.
We thank Rocio for coming and sharing her perspectives, and we look forward to getting involved with the Mexican consulate in the future to help promote human rights here and abroad.
Immigrant Rights In Philadelphia Speaker- March 14th
On march 14th, Little Known Help Zone will be hosting a great event with a speaker, Rocio Vasquez from the Philadelphian Mexican Consulate. Rocio will be coming with some members from the protection agency to talk about how they work as an organization to protect worker’s rights in Philadelphia through an informal dialogue.
We are so grateful for these speakers donating their time, and the event will be catered with light snacks and refreshments.
We hope you can make it to Bryn Mawr College, Dalton 300 @ 4:00 PM on march 14th.
Guatemalan Tea Study Hour
On March 1st, Little Known Help Zone held their first event for the Spring Semester promoting labor rights and equality in Central America. This study hour featured light food and Tea from the Chirrepeco Cooperative, a Guatemalan tea coop that practices unionization and voting rights, as well as fair wages and women’s empowerment. The even was a great way to unwind and study for midterms while supporting a great cause and reflecting on fair labor practices!
