Monthly Classroom Project: South Philadelphia High School

This week, Little Known Help Zone was thrilled to visit another school for the monthly classroom project in Philadelphia, the South Philadelphia High School.

Located on Broad Street, this school is beautiful and noticeable with the gorgeous murals outside. They are diverse, bright, and inviting. Once inside, there are still more murals and art pieces decorating the halls.

I donated art supplies to the art teacher, as well as a ton of classroom and plant supplies to the ecology teacher.

I also got to see some of the school and learn about their student body. What used to be one of the largest high schools in Philadelphia now has 600 students, 50% as ESL students and Special Ed students.

Thank you to Janelle for arranging this!

New Etsy Jewelry

Have you been shopping on our Etsy site yet? It has a lot of great items like our key of hope necklaces, sea glass rings, cherry blossom kits, and more!

Just added to the site is a beautiful rose emblem cuff bracelet. This was inspired by my education at Bryn Mawr College and one phrase we use often, “Give Us Bread But Give Us Roses.”

This means that we want the necessities, but the beauty, and I think this message sums up my organization well.

This bracelet has the silver charm, a looped chain, and a red accent bead by the lobster claw. It is a beauty, and I hope someone enjoys this soon. As always, all the money goes towards Little Known Help Zone’s mission of the monthly classroom project.

Monthly Classroom Project Preparation

On February 1st, LKHZ will be visiting Mosser Elementary School in Allentown, PA to deliver to 4 new classrooms for the Monthly Classroom Project. This includes two learning support classrooms, a first grade classroom, and a kindergarten classroom.

Thanks to recent generous donations, we were able to purchase $200 of supplies, and have more donations from sponsors to be joined with the kits!

Items include a rug for a sensory nook, basic school supplies, and lots of toys and learning items to have fun while learning.

Stay tuned for photos from the visit!

Donations to Ms. Emert’s Classroom

Yesterday, Little Known Help Zone was able to drop off $150 worth of school supplies to Ms. Emert’s Classroom. This was incredibly exciting and her classroom was set up in such a friendly and open way. I placed each kit on each desk for the students to see on their first day of school.

In October, I will be returning to read books and do crafts with her 8 students of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. She teaches both verbal and nonverbal students on the autism spectrum in the Allentown School District. Additional good news is that all three of her Donor’s Choose campaigns were funded! This was a true success for LKHZ’s first classroom donation.

LKHZ at the Bryn Mawr College Staff Association Holiday Fair

If you’re in the area, come out and see LKHZ at the Bryn Mawr College staff association craft fair from 10-2 on December 3rd in Thomas Great Hall. As always, all money made will be donated to LKHZ causes, specifically sponsored students needs and a scholarship fund for next year.

This is a really exciting opportunity to raise money for causes and get the word out about the organization and mission amongst staff and alumnae from Bryn Mawr College. This networking will hopefully make fruitful connections for future partnerships.

For sale will be Key Of Knowledge necklaces, tab bracelets, shell rings, crayons, and other jewelry.

Hope to see you there!

Donations for El Salvador Orphanage

For the trip to El Salvador, Little Known Help Zone will be bringing a variety of fun books to the Remar Orphanage.

First, Little Known Help Zone would like to extend huge thanks to Salisbury Middle School for donating over 30 books to bring to El Salvador. These beginner level chapter books are perfect, as often times donations do not include advanced books like these. These will be perfect for people trying to perfect their english moving forward and the books are wonderful. All of these will be going.

Also going will be over 15 children’s books and 5 School Workbooks. Additionally, some toys and clothing will be brought as well.

These donations will be distributed to the kids at the Remar Orphanage and School.

Stay tuned for pictures from the trip!

Guatemala- Mayan Families

The work for Guatemala has been complete.

Little Known Help Zone will be selling handmade crayons, a dollar a piece, to raise the $360 needed to send a child to school in Guatemala through mayanfamilies.org

miMgdlYYgTrEKfhvZZlER6g

No crayon is the same, just like no child is the same.

As of now, 6 dozen crayons are available to buy, and Little Known Help Zone is requesting donations of broken or old crayons from locals in the community to work and make more crayons. The more sold, the more children sent to school!

The crayons will be spread out on the table so children can view all of them and choose.

After the event, these will be listed on easy for purchase.
