Giving Tuesday Donations

For Giving Tuesday, Little Known Help Zone conducted some civic engagement and gave to a variety of causes near and dear to our mission. These ranged from community to globally, and a diverse number of causes received support.

Jaguar Rescue Center- Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica

This is a cause we have worked with extensively in the past (read our posts) and wanted to send a bit more love down there. This organization is doing incredible work with jungle animals in Costa Rica, and we’ve seen first hand how meaningful their work is.

Voices for Biodiversity

This is an anthropological organization that supports biodiversity and cultural diversity through global endeavors, preserving the vital ecology of our earth.

TechGirlz

This great group teaches tech and STEM skills to young girls from underprivileged communities, inspiring passion and helping enrich and mentor young women that may not have the resources.

Allentown Food Bank

This local organization feeds Allentown’s hungry, what more can we say than we want to give back to the community that has made this organization a reality.

Look Good Feel Better

This organization gives women undergoing chemo makeup and classes so that while they are working on getting better, they can feel beautiful.

Did you give back this year for Giving Tuesday? Let us know who you contributed to!

Immigrant Rights Speaker-3/28

thumbnail_image4.jpgOn Tuesday, 3/28, Rocio Vasquez from the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia came to Bryn Mawr College to talk about her work at the consulate, what she does during the day, and how they are working to protect immigrants in the area. The consulate does amazing work with labor rights, family law, criminal law, and health services.

The event was a casual, conversational environment with a q/a session, and there was a large turnout including faculty and staff. The event will also be covered by the Bryn Mawr website.

We thank Rocio for coming and sharing her perspectives, and we look forward to getting involved with the Mexican consulate in the future to help promote human rights here and abroad.

Guatemalan Tea Study Hour

On March 1st, Little Known Help Zone held their first event for the Spring Semester promoting labor rights and equality in Central America. This study hour featured light food and Tea from the Chirrepeco Cooperative, a Guatemalan tea coop that practices unionization and voting rights, as well as fair wages and women’s empowerment. The even was a great way to unwind and study for midterms while supporting a great cause and reflecting on fair labor practices!
